The Goal is Happyness

I had an amazing experience on my English Matters course in Oslo for four reasons. Firstly, I enjoyed the cultural scene, visiting museums and galleries. The cultural institutions, schools and public services are well funded.
Secondly, although Norway is a rich country, it is the state that is wealthy, not the individuals. The state cares for each individual. A school in an area with high levels of school absence decided to offer free breakfast with social workers. Schools have a lot of freedom over their budget and can start such projects themselves.
I also heard the following comment: 'The goal of the school is to enable pupils to find happiness'. I think other countries are limited in how much they can do to address depression, psychological illnesses or bullying.
Our school also wants to do more than just focus on the curriculum. We have decided to combine courses and levels wherever possible, for example for cultural activities, as speaking with unfamiliar people improves mood (even in the English Matters courses).
In our school, we share our experiences with the aim of reaching more teachers than those who have travelled. On the one hand, many teachers assist with our courses, and on the other, our school has a podcast radio. For this programme, I interviewed a school director and a university professor who teaches Didactics in Oslo. Additionally, a teacher I met in Oslo introduced me to a colleague who teaches in prison. This interview was the fourth and most impactful experience, even though this teacher had not been to Oslo. The interview was online. I think it's a perfect example of dissemination.
